What is belly fat?

Belly fat or visceral fat is the excess abdominal fat that develops around internal organs in your stomach. Visceral fat is much more dangerous than other types of fat because it surrounds the muscles beneath the stomach and nearby organs like the liver and kidney. This fat poses dangers to vital organs if in excess.

It is reported that Individuals who are slim are also at higher chances of having body fat, particularly in the midsection. Also, if one is overweight, you need to understand that belly fat truly is different from other fat that’s distributed to other areas of your body.

How it is different from other types of fats?

Belly fat is the excess abdominal fat surrounding the organs in your stomach. There are three types of fat: triglycerides (the fat that circulates in the blood), subcutaneous fat (the layer directly below the skin’s surface), and visceral fat (dangerous belly fat).

Visceral fat is located deep beneath the muscles in your stomach and poses many dangers to your health when there is too much of it. This placement of fat is so damaging to our health.

The latest research shows both subcutaneous and visceral fat cells, are metabolically active, secreting hormones and chemicals that affect every organ in your body.

When the problem arises?

At an ideal weight, the hormones and chemicals secreted by fat cells are healthy and perform functions like regulating insulin, appetite by allowing you to feel satisfied after eating and help to burn stored fat.

It becomes dangerous if one has more and larger fat cells than normal, which is usually seen in overweight persons. These larger fat cells produce more hormones and chemicals than our body needs, which affects the body over time and increases the risk for diseases like diabetes, stroke, heart attack, and even certain cancers.

How it affects your liver?

The liver is one of the organs close near where the visceral fat places. Due to this blood circulates from visceral fat directly transports to the liver. As a result harmful chemicals and toxins continuously transported to the liver.

Increased fat processing in the liver lead to increased LDL (low density lipoprotein or bad cholesterol) cholesterol levels and hence fatty liver disease. Too much visceral fat can put you at the risk of other health issues too like cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, etc.

Cut down the extra belly fat

Losing some extra belly fat can save you from potential health risks later in life. Regular exercise, a balanced diet, and sleep are the major factors to get rid of belly fat.
